The PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic assessment is a computer-based English language test for the aspirants who desire to study abroad or immigrate to an English-speaking country for employment. The PTE exam assesses the English language competency of non-native speakers.
It measures the proficiency of English in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills of the aspirants. The test is designed in such a way that every question generally tests two skills together, like reading and speaking or listening and reading.
Pearson PLC Group, which conducted the PTE exam, has launched PTE at Home also. PTE test and PTE at Home both are the same; PTE at Home is the extended version of the PTE test that is held in the safety of the home.
PTE Academic exam fee is 185 USD or INR 14,700. Individuals who fail to pay the exam fee on time have to pay a total sum of 275 USD as a late fee.
There are three types of PTE exams is available to check the proficiency of English language skills of the candidates:
The PTE Academic exam is conducted throughout the year. The exam consists of four sections: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The PTE Academic exam scores are valid for two years.
The PTE Academic UKVI is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) that is approved by the UK for applying for visas application to work, study or live in the UK. The PTE Academic UKVI exam format is the same as PTE Academic exam. It also measures the ability of the English language in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills of the candidates.
The PTE Home is an English proficiency test that is accepted by the UK Home Office for family and work visas. PTE Home is different from PTE at Home version of the test. The PTE at Home is nothing but an extension of the PTE Academic Exam.
PTE exam has two formats:
PTE Academic is taken by the aspirants who want to study abroad or professionals who are seeking career opportunities in English-speaking countries like the UK, Australia, Canada, and others.
The PTE Academic is broadly divided into PTE Speaking & Writing Section, PTE Reading Section, and PTE Listening Section.
PTE Speaking & Writing section has a personal introduction, sentences, lectures, comprehensions, short questions-answers, summary written test, and essay writing for 54 – 67 minutes test duration.
PTE Reading section has a total of 29 – 30 minutes allotted for reading and writing, multiple-choice questions, paragraph reordering, and fill in the blanks.
PTE Listening section has a total of 30 – 43 minutes allotted for summarizing spoken tests, multiple-choice, fill in the blanks, missing words, identifying incorrect words, and dictation.
PTE General can be taken by anybody who wants to check their English proficiency.
PTE Academic Exam is scored on a scale of 10 – 90. 10 is the lowest score on a grade scale and it is incremented by 1 point. The grading scale shows the person's ability to read, speak, understand verbal instructions and write the English language.
The PTE score report can be sent via an online secure portal set up by PTE to the concerned university. PTE exam scores are valid for two years.
